Summary Explanation/Background
The Broward County Charter (the “Charter”) currently provides that an independent board nominates one individual for the position of County Auditor, subject to ratification by a majority of the Commission. This Charter amendment, if approved by the electorate, would provide that the independent board proposes three candidates and that the Commission appoints the County Auditor, by a majority vote, from among those three candidates.
If approved, this item would place the proposed Charter amendment on the November 3, 2026, General Election ballot. Placing a proposed Charter amendment on the ballot requires six affirmative votes.
