Summary Explanation/Background
THE AVIATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action allows BCAD to accept grant funding from FDOT for the construction of the Project in the amount of $2,356,975.
The estimated construction cost for the Project is estimated to be $18,855,200 (“Project Cost”). As outlined in the PTGA, FDOT will provide grant funding in the amount of $2,356,975 for the Project, with the Federal Aviation Administration providing an estimated $14,141,250, and Broward County funding the remaining Project Cost, estimated at $2,356,975, and any Project Cost overruns.
Taxilane T, constructed in 2002, is a critical component of the airfield at FLL serving as the primary area for aircraft traffic near concourses in all four terminals. An FDOT inspection report issued in 2022 rated Taxilane T as very poor, noting that the pavement is nearing the end of its useful life and exhibiting typical distress. The report recommended milling and resurfacing along with reconstruction of sections to address deteriorating pavement conditions. The Project is essential in maintaining safe and efficient aircraft operations at FLL.
The proposed PTGA has been reviewed by the Office of the County Attorney. The PTGA does not include the County's standard agreement provisions as FDOT requires the County to use its form agreement.
