THE LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
Approval of this item will support the Commission’s Goal for a Healthy Community and the Libraries Division’s Mission to provide convenient access to a full range of innovative and cost-effective services that satisfy the changing needs of the people of Broward County for information, education, and recreation. Pursuant to Broward County Administrative Code Section 18.63, the Libraries Division requests that the Board formally accept the cash donation from the Broward Public Library Foundation, Inc. for deposit to the Broward County Library Trust Fund, part of the General Trust Fund (Program Code 95501).
The $12,950 cash donation will provide scholarships for 10 eligible adults to earn a high school diploma. Career Online High School is an online high school diploma and career certification program, fully accredited by AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools on Accreditation and School Improvement. Since this program began in 2016, the Library’s Career Online High School program has assisted over 200 Broward residents in successfully graduating with high school diplomas. To be eligible to receive a scholarship a prospective student must be at least 19 years old; have a Broward County Library card in good standing; and successfully complete the self-assessment and pre-requisite course and attend an interview.
