Summary Explanation/Background

THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The County has a growing need to acquire large tracts of property as it seeks to locate or relocate County facilities. Particularly when the real estate market is strong and available property is scarce, larger tracts do not stay on the market long. To acquire such parcels, if and when they become available in this competitive market, staff need the flexibility to be able to act quickly. Staff are requesting the County Administrator be given the above-referenced authority that will be exercised only when seeking prior approval by the Board is not practicable or would put the County at a competitive disadvantage. Any exercise of authority under this item will be promptly reported to the Board.
