Previous Action Taken

On January 22, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners set a public hearing to consider transmitting a proposed Broward County Comprehensive Plan amendment to designated state agencies.

Summary Explanation/Background

THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE LOCAL PLANNING AGENCY (LPA), AND THE HOUSING AND URBAN PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Pursuant to Chapter 163.3177(6)(g), Florida Statutes, local governments identified in Section 380.24, Florida Statutes, including Broward County, must include a Coastal Management Element (CME) in the Comprehensive Plan.  Chapter 163.3178 requires the CME to include, among other items, a component which includes the master plans for any ports located within the local government’s jurisdiction. Port Everglades is a deepwater port located within Broward County. The Broward County Administrative Code, Chapter 16 - Organization, Port Everglades provides for the update of the Port Everglades Master Vision Plan (PEMVP) and its incorporation into the Broward County Comprehensive Plan.  The CME is being updated to include the required Deepwater Port Component (DWPC), that incorporates the PEMVP.

On January 14, 2026, the LPA recommended the Board find proposed Amendment 25-T2 consistent with the Broward County Comprehensive Plan and transmit the amendment to the designated state review agencies.
