Why Action is Necessary

It is necessary to schedule a public hearing of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to be held subsequent to receipt of a recommendation from the Broward County Planning Council prior to adoption of an amendment to the Broward County Comprehensive Plan.

 

What Action Accomplishes

The Resolution directs the County Administrator to set a public hearing for September 10, 2026, to consider adoption of proposed text amendment PCT 26-9, which is an amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan, pursuant to Section 163.3184, Florida Statutes, as amended.

June 9, 2026 - The County Commission approved transmittal to designated State review agencies of proposed Broward County Land Use Plan text amendment PCT 26-9.

 

Summary Explanation/Background

The Planning Council, as the Local Planning Agency (LPA) responsible for the Broward County Land Use Plan, considered the following proposed text amendment, PCT 26-9, at its April 23, 2026, public hearing and recommended approval, including not requiring a second Planning Council public hearing (Vote of the Planning Council; Unanimous: 14-0; Abramson, Brunson, Castillo, Fisher, Geller, Gomez, Greenberg, Hardin, Horland, Levy, Railey, Rosenof, Zeman, and DiGiorgio):

 

AMENDMENT PCT 26-9

Amendment to the Broward County Land Use Plan Text - City of Fort Lauderdale

 

Eliminating the geographic restriction for dwelling units within the existing Activity Center area and allowing dwelling units throughout the entire 361.7 acres; the proposed text amendment does not expand or modify any of the adopted intensities or densities.

 

Approximately 361.7 acres; generally located on the west side of Interstate 95, between McNab Road/C-14 Canal and Northwest 56 Street, bisected by Cypress Creek Road and the CSX Railroad.
