Summary Explanation/Background
Currently, BSO occupies temporary space in Terminal 2 at FLL that is adjacent to and in the path of a future terminal connector between Terminals 1 and 2. Due to the Terminal Connectors project, the Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) needs to relocate BSO to another area within FLL. BSO and County staff negotiated an MOU (Exhibit 1) to implement such relocation and to provide an alternate space for the BSO airport district public safety facility (BSO facility) at FLL.
The MOU also includes plans for a joint conceptual design of a future BSO facility within the same space and consisting of a maximum of 18,354 square feet. After the County and BSO agree on the conceptual design, the County will engage, in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, an architect/engineer to prepare the necessary design and construction documents required to construct the BSO facility at FLL.
Additionally, this action also authorizes the County Administrator to execute and make modifications to the MOU, provided that such modifications do not impose any additional material financial or legal risk upon Broward County, subject to review and approval for legal sufficiency by the County Attorney’s Office.
