Summary Explanation/Background

District 9’s office projects an excess in budgeted office funds for Fiscal Year 2025 (“FY25”) that it would like to use to provide funding for the secular programs of the following 16 Section 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the amounts indicated:

 

$500 for Alan and Michelle Alexander Ministries, Inc. (“Michelle Alexander”);

$500 for the Christian Community Church of God, Inc. (“Christian Community”);

$15,000 for Coast To Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (“Coast to Coast Legal Aid”);

$1,000 for Friends of the Broward County African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Inc. (“AARLCC Friends”);

$12,500 for Island SPACE Caribbean Museum (“Island SPACE”);

$300 for the Kiwanis Club of Greater Sunrise in Broward Foundation Inc. (“Kiwanis Sunrise”);

$500 for the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes Foundation, Inc. (“Kiwanis Lauderdale Lakes”);

$1,000 for Lakes Alzheimer’s Foundation, Inc. (“Lakes Alzheimer’s”);

$5,000 for Miami-Broward One Carnival Host Committee, Inc. (“One Carnival”);

$1,000 for New Life Fellowship Center C.O.G., Inc. (“New Life Fellowship”);

$5,000 for People Profile, Inc. (“People Profile”);

$500 for PS Youth Outreach Center, Inc. (“PS Youth Outreach”);

$500 for The Episcopal Church of the Atonement, Inc. (“Episcopal Church”);

$500 for Victory Place International Worship Center, Inc. (“Victory Place”);

$600 for Word Alive Worship Center, Inc. (“Word Alive”); and

$6,000 for Youth Empowerment Village, Inc. (“Youth Empowerment”).

 

Michelle Alexander is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit church organization that provides food assistance and community outreach in Broward County. The donated funds will be restricted to support its mentorship program.

 

Christian Community is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit church organization in Broward County that provides food distribution, youth activities, and family support programs for the community. The donated funds will be restricted to support its food pantry program and related community outreach.

 

Coast to Coast Legal Aid is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free civil legal services to low-income Broward County residents. The donated funds will support its Tenant Protection Program, which helps residents avoid unlawful evictions and maintain stable housing.

 

AARLCC Friends is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the programs, collections, and cultural offerings of the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale through fundraising, community engagement, and educational initiatives.

 

Island SPACE is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing arts, culture, history, and educational initiatives that represent the Caribbean region in South Florida and the broader diaspora community.

 

Kiwanis Sunrise is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes youth development and civic engagement. The donated funds will support its Children’s Week and Mayor & Commissioner for a Day programs, which foster leadership opportunities and public service awareness among local youth.

 

Kiwanis Lauderdale Lakes is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit service organization that supports families and youth in Lauderdale Lakes. The donated funds will support its Children’s Week and Mayor & Commissioner for a Day programs, providing educational experiences and community engagement opportunities for students.

 

Lakes Alzheimer’s is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides support and respite care to families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. The donated funds will support the organization’s annual Tea Party event, which raises awareness and provides resources for families and caregivers.

 

One Carnival is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit cultural organization that plans and presents the annual Miami Carnival, a Caribbean cultural festival celebrating music, costumes, and traditions, while promoting cultural heritage, tourism, and economic activity in South Florida.

 

New Life Fellowship is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit church in Broward County that provides community support programs, including youth services and food assistance. The donated funds will be restricted to support its food pantry program and community outreach services.

 

People Profile is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to uplifting underserved communities through leadership development, cultural enrichment, youth engagement, and international outreach initiatives.

 

PS Youth Outreach is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides mentorship, education, and enrichment programs for youth in Broward County.

 

Episcopal Church is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit church in Lauderdale Lakes that provides food distribution and community outreach programs. The donated funds will be restricted to support its Caribbean Emancipation and Juneteenth Conversation programming.

 

Victory Place is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit faith-based organization in Broward County that provides youth mentoring, family support, and community assistance programs. The donated funds will be restricted to support its Community Leaders Outreach initiative.

 

Word Alive is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit church organization that supports families in Broward County through educational outreach, wellness seminars, and community assistance programs. The donated funds will be restricted to support its wellness seminars and outreach programs.

 

Youth Empowerment is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides mentorship, educational support, and leadership training for young people in Broward County to help them achieve academic success and career readiness.

 

District 9’s goal is to provide $50,400 in FY25 projected leftover office funds to these charitable organizations to further the missions of these entities. If approved, this item would authorize the County Administrator to execute agreements prepared by the County Attorney’s Office to effectuate these donations.
