Summary Explanation/Background
Pursuant to the Broward County Local Provider Participation Fund Ordinance, codified in Article V of Chapter 16 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances (“Ordinance”), the Broward County Board of County Commissioners will convene a public hearing to discuss, consider, and take action on a resolution setting the rate of collection and assessment amount for a non-ad valorem special assessment on local private hospitals (“Special Assessment”), which Special Assessment is due on receipt of the invoice.
The Special Assessment is intended to finance intergovernmental transfers, provided consistent with federal guidelines, that fund a portion of the non-federal share of the supplemental Medicaid payments pursuant to the Ordinance. The Special Assessment directly and specially benefits the assessed properties and supports the provision of health care services to uninsured persons and those who qualify for Medicaid.
The public hearing to adopt the Special Assessment rates is scheduled to take place as part of the public hearing on September 17, 2024. Notice of the Public Hearing has also been provided to the owners of the Assessed Properties in accordance with the Ordinance.
