Summary Explanation/Background
THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE CRISIS INTERVENTION AND SUPPORT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.
These actions support the Commission’s value of “building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives,” and the goal of “delivering accessible human services that holistically address the whole person collaboratively and compassionately.” Funding from FNCAC will be used to pay for training for staff at the Nancy J. Cotterman Center (“NJCC”) who provide prevention and intervention services to child victims of sexual and physical abuse.
Broward County received its first award from FNCAC in Fiscal Year 2010-2011 and has been receiving the award annually since then. FNCAC provided notice to the County of this year’s License Plate and Voluntary Contribution award of noncompetitive grant funding on July 31, 2024, with an effective date of July 1, 2024. After resolution of certain programmatic matters, FNCAC provided the County with the Agreement to Distribute Proceeds from Stop Child Abuse License Plate and Voluntary Contribution Program on September 6, 2024.
Section 320.08058(40), Florida Statutes, provides for the Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention license plate, which incurs a special annual fee that is distributed to the Children’s Home Society of Florida and FNCAC. Section 320.02(17)(n), Florida Statutes, provides that FNCAC shall distribute proceeds from the Voluntary Contribution Program equitably among the network members. FNCAC distributes these funds to accredited children’s advocacy centers such as NJCC.
The Agreement (Exhibit 1) is in the form required by FNCAC and has been reviewed and approved for legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney. FNCAC will sign last following Commission approval.
