Summary Explanation/Background

This motion supports the following Commission Value: “Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives,” and Commission goal: “Ensuring residents have an affordable place to live by offering sustainable, compatible, innovative, accessible, affordable housing options for all income levels, including integrated, permanent supportive housing and zoning that helps residents build equity.”

The Broward Housing Council (“Council”) serves in an advisory capacity to the Board and facilitates coordination between Broward County, municipalities, the business community, and not-for-profit groups to address housing issues including affordable housing, workforce housing, and homelessness.

Section 11.06 of the Broward County Charter requires the Council to submit an annual report to the Board. The report outlines key efforts taken in collaboration with municipal partners, nonprofit organizations, developers, and other community stakeholders. It also highlights relevant housing data and market trends, as well as legislative and funding updates impacting housing initiatives. This item accepts the Council’s 2025 Annual Report.

This item is being submitted after the deadline for supplemental items because it was only recently determined that the report needed to be submitted. The item should not be deferred to a subsequent Commission meeting, so that the Board can review the Council’s 2025 Annual Report before its summer recess.
