Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are required to appropriate LETF funds.

Summary Explanation/Background
The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request for the BSO Research. Development and Training Center (RDT) Furniture. The Broward Sheriff's Office, in partnership with Broward County, is constructing a state-of-the-art Research, Development and Training Center at the BSO Public Safety Building Complex. This Center will be used to train and educate members of various local. state and federal public safety agencies including our municipal law enforcement partners. We require LETF funding to provide furnishings at the Center.

According to BSO, the current balance of the LETF, as of May 17, 2023, is $5,972,319 in the local account ($4,170,796 of which is unrestricted) and $5,875,566 in the federal account ($3,392,656 of which is unrestricted). This action will utilize $397,828 in unrestricted local funds.
