Summary Explanation/Background
THE AVIATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action approves Amendment No.12 to the Agreement in order to adjust the law enforcement staffing structure at FLL.
On November 12, 1996 (Item No. 1), the Board approved the initial Agreement with the Broward Sheriff's Office ("BSO") for law enforcement services at FLL for the period of October 1, 1995, through September 30, 2000. Additional information on the initial Agreement and subsequent amendments is included in Exhibit 2.
Currently, the BSO Airport District command staff is comprised of 125 positions including a Captain and two Lieutenants who are supported by two Administrative Specialists. Due to the continued growth at FLL, the BSO Airport District reevaluated its staffing structure and requested an additional Deputy Sheriff Sergeant to lead the newly created BSO Airport Community Team. The proposed Amendment No. 12 adjusts law enforcement staffing levels at FLL by adding one Deputy Sheriff Sergeant and removing one Deputy Sheriff to support the Airport District command staff. The Broward County Aviation Department is in support of the requested additional Deputy Sheriff Sergeant position and the reinforcement of services to be provided by the BSO Airport Community Team.
The proposed Amendment No. 12 has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
