Summary Explanation/Background

On October 7, 2026 (Item No. 5), the County Commission (“Commission”) approved $330,320 in funding for a Family Court Navigator Pilot Program (“Pilot Program”) with the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida to increase judicial efficiency and help families in addressing interrelated legal and nonlegal problems, including through referrals.

The Pilot Program allowed the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court to provide a myriad of in-house services for education and intervention services for families involved in domestic relations cases, while also providing litigants with navigation and referral services to available service providers in the community. The Pilot Program provided resources and support for the entire family unit, with particular sensitivity to the needs of children, while facilitating compliance with court orders and connecting families to appropriate resources.

This item permits the Commission to discuss the results of the Pilot Program, and to provide appropriate direction to the County Administrator regarding the possible continuation of the program.
