Summary Explanation/Background
THE PUBLIC WORKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Section 402.306, Florida Statutes, gives each Florida county the option of either designating a "local licensing agency" ("LLA") or contracting with the Florida Department of Children and Families ("DCF"), to license childcare facilities. Broward County has designated an LLA for over 40 years for this purpose, currently through the Child Care Licensing and Enforcement Section ("CCLE") of the Consumer Protection Division. To appoint an LLA, a county must have childcare regulations that meet or exceed the state's minimum standards. The Broward County Commission has enacted such standards in Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances. Under section 402.307, Florida Statutes, DCF has verified that these standards meet or exceed the State minimums.
