Summary Explanation/Background
Broward County has historically supported the incorporation of unincorporated areas. Today, with 31 municipalities, nearly all of the County’s land and population fall within incorporated boundaries. The remaining unincorporated areas represent a small portion of the County but continue to require direct municipal-level services.
This item provides an opportunity for the Board to revisit its policy on incorporation, evaluate the current status of unincorporated areas, and consider the County’s long-term approach to governance, service delivery, and potential future incorporation efforts.
