A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO TAXIMETER RATES; AMENDING SECTION 40.50 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE ("ADMINISTRATIVE CODE"); AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Summary Explanation/Background
At the direction of the Board of County Commissioners ("Board") at its November 14, 2023, meeting (Item 88), the Office of the County Attorney prepared the proposed Resolution to amend Section 40.50 of the Administrative Code to increase current taximeter rates for every 1/6th of a mile after the first 1/6th mile by 20% from 40 cents to 48 cents. Section 221/2 of the Code of Ordinances provides that in cases of special or urgent necessity, as determined by the Board, a public hearing may be held by the Board to review and establish, alter, amend, or revise taxicab rates. The Consumer Protection Division provided a memorandum to the Board indicating that in light of the significant operational challenges in the market, the Board's consideration of revised rates ahead of the review scheduled in 2024 meets the above-referenced standard (Exhibit 2).
