Summary Explanation/Background
From the 1970s until this year, the County’s Finance and Administrative Services Department performed the functions of county tax collector pursuant to the County Charter. A 2018 amendment to the Florida Constitution required the transfer of those functions to an elected tax collector beginning on January 7, 2025. As a result, certain provisions of the Code pertaining to the tax collector are now obsolete. If this item is approved, the County Attorney’s Office will prepare appropriate Ordinances for the Board’s consideration, after consulting with the Tax Collector’s Office to obtain its input.
