Summary Explanation/Background

The federal government has been shut down since October 1, 2025, due to a lapse in federal appropriations. As a result, many federal employees have been experiencing significant financial hardship, as they are required to report to work each day without pay. Many of these employees live or work in Broward County, with offices located near County parking facilities.

Chapter 38 of the Broward County Administrative Code (“Administrative Code”) establishes the standard fees for parking at County parking facilities. This item temporarily waives certain provisions of Chapter 38 and authorizes the County Administrator to waive parking fees for federal employees during the current federal government shutdown in order to provide some relief to those affected.
