Summary Explanation/Background

On or about September 21, 2020, Robert L. Strauss, P.A. d/b/a Strauss Construction, DLS Prestressed, Inc., Nash Mechanical & Fire Contractors II, Inc. d/b/a South Shore Plumbing, Sandcastles at the Beach, LLC, and Stacey A. Baytarian (“Defendants”) were engaged in construction activities in connection with the redevelopment of a residential property in Lighthouse Point, Florida. During the installation of auger pilings, concrete was negligently introduced into the County’s main gravity sewer line, causing significant damage to the County’s sewer infrastructure.

Broward County has agreed to release the Defendants from all claims, and the Defendants have agreed to release one another from their respective crossclaims arising from the incident, in exchange for a total payment of $94,000.00 to the County, inclusive of costs and attorneys’ fees, subject to Board approval.

The Risk Management Division and the Public Works and Environmental Services Department recommend approval of this settlement.
