Summary Explanation/Background
On April 1, 2025, the Board enacted an ordinance regulating the management and disposal of batteries within Broward County ("Battery Recycling Ordinance"). The Battery Recycling Ordinance prohibits the disposal of certain batteries and battery-containing products in regular trash or solid waste facilities. The Battery Recycling Ordinance also requires that certain battery retailers establish free, on-site collection programs for recycling or disposing of used batteries and display signage informing consumers about safe recycling.
