Summary Explanation/Background

This item directs the County Attorney’s Office to draft an amendment to the Business Opportunity Act, Section 1-81, et. seq., of the Broward County Code of Ordinances.

The proposed amendment would eliminate monetary and evaluation point differentials currently required for CBE Reserve solicitations. These requirements have created barriers that limit the ability of certified small businesses to compete for and be awarded contracts as prime contractors. Eliminating these requirements will better align the Ordinance with the purpose of the CBE Reserve program, which is to expand opportunities for small, locally certified firms to serve as prime contractors in County procurements.
