Summary Explanation/Background

The Plaintiff, Maria Yolanda Llaguna, filed a lawsuit alleging that on August 24, 2022, her vehicle was stopped at a red light in the westbound lane of Atlantic Boulevard near Powerline Road in Pompano Beach when it was rear-ended by a Broward County semi-truck. As a result of the collision, the Plaintiff claims she suffered injuries.

The Plaintiff has agreed to release Broward County from all claims arising from the incident in exchange for $100,000.00, inclusive of costs and attorneys’ fees, subject to Board approval. The current sovereign immunity damages cap for this matter is $200,000.00.

The Risk Management Division and the Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division recommend approval of this settlement.
