Summary Explanation/Background

The existing “Performance Excellence Award Program” permits the County Administrator to grant discretionary performance awards to County employees for their outstanding performance on a particular project, assignment, skill, or accomplishment, or for overall outstanding performance throughout the year. If approved by the County Administrator, the performance award provides a monetary award to the employee, funded from the applicable County agency budget and limited to not more than 5% of the employee’s base annual salary.

This item, if approved, would direct the County Administrator, in consultation with the County Attorney’s Office, to modify the existing performance award program to permit County Commissioners to participate in recommending County employees for performance awards which, if approved, would be funded from the applicable Commission District budget.
