MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of Public Hearing to be held on January 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422 of Governmental Center East to consider enactment of a proposed Ordinance, the title of which is as follows:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO GARBAGE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE; REPEALING SECTIONS 14-78 THROUGH 14-84 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES ("CODE"); CREATING NEW SECTIONS 14 78 THROUGH 14-84 OF THE CODE; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Summary Explanation/Background
Chapter 14 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances ("Code") relates to the collection and disposal of garbage in the unincorporated areas and also addresses the issuance of licenses to private trash haulers. Sections 14-78 through 14-83 of the Code were last updated in 1989, and Section 14-84 of the Code relating to the collection of trash in the "Open Market Area" of the unincorporated portions of Broward County has not been updated since its initial enactment in 2011. In the years since these sections were last addressed by the Board, there have been significant changes associated with the trash collection industry.
