THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS/BOARDS SECTION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
The Racial Equity Task Force (RETF) is comprised of 37 members appointed by the Broward County Commission. The Public Defender for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit of Florida (Public Defender) is one of the 20 organizations that nominates a member to be appointed by the County Commission.
The following nomination has been received by the Human Services Department (HSD) for appointment to the RETF pursuant to Section 1-118, Broward County Code:
• Gordon Weekes as the Public Defender for the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Representative.
As the Public Defender, Mr. Weekes nominated himself to serve on the RETF on January 11, 2021. The County Attorney has determined that Mr. Weekes qualifies for appointment (Exhibit 1).
