Summary Explanation/Background

THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL ON THE ABOVE MOTION.

On August 20, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m., a Broward County Transportation bus struck the Claimant, who was crossing SE 17th Street within a marked pedestrian crosswalk as the bus attempted to make a left turn from SE 3rd Avenue.

Through negotiations with the Claimant’s attorney, a tentative settlement was reached in the amount of $100,000. Broward County Risk Management, along with the County Attorney’s Office, is in agreement with the settlement in order to mitigate future financial exposure to the County.
