Summary Explanation/Background
At the October 7, 2025, meeting of the Board, and based on feedback from stakeholders collected by the Consumer Protection Division ("Division"), including from the hospitality industry, large motor carriers, and small independent taxicab owners, the Board directed the County Attorney's Office to draft an Ordinance addressing improved vehicle standards for taxicabs and other motor carriers operating in Broward County.
The proposed Ordinance, if enacted, will modify the standards for vehicles, operators, and chauffeurs, including:
(1) phasing in, over a period of five years, a maximum vehicle age for taxicabs of ten model years;
(2) establishing a program for rating taxicabs and training taxicab drivers; and
(3) establishing additional standards for the interior and exterior of vehicles.
