Summary Explanation/Background
Pursuant to Section 125.0104, Florida Statutes, Section 1 of Chapter 2009-259, Laws of Florida, and Section 31½-18, Broward County Code, appointments to the Tourist Development Council (Council) are made by the Board of County Commissioners (Board) from specified membership categories.
Specifically, the Council is composed of 11 members. The Mayor of the Board of County Commissioners or another member of the Board, as designated by the Mayor, serve on the Council. The Board must also appoint an elected official from the most populous municipality in the county. The City of Ft. Lauderdale is the most populous municipality in Broward County. Currently, Mayor Dean J. Trantalis serves as the City of Ft. Lauderdale representative on the Council. Mayor Trantalis’ term expired. At its April 1, 2025, City Commission meeting, the City of Fort Lauderdale approved resolution 25-0387 to nominate Mayor Trantalis for reappointment to the Council.
