Summary Explanation/Background
On November 5, 2024, the Broward County electorate approved an amendment to Section 11.06 of the Broward County Charter ("Charter"). The amendment removed the membership categories for the Broward Housing Council ("Council") from the Charter, changed the number of members for the Council, and authorized the Board to establish the membership categories for the Council by ordinance.
The proposed Ordinance establishes the membership categories for the Council. The categories are substantially the same as those that existed in the Charter, but are updated to address the Council's difficulty in filling vacancies, replace the entities that no longer exist, and add membership categories for two additional members.
