Summary Explanation/Background

Representative Chip LaMarca has filed a local bill that, if enacted by the Florida Legislature and if approved by the County’s electorate during a referendum election, would rename Broward County as “Lauderdale County.”

If adopted, the proposed Resolution (Exhibit 1) would express the Board’s support for the local bill (attached as Exhibit 2) and the proposed renaming, and would include the proposed renaming in the County’s 2026 State Legislative and Executive Program.
