THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT, THE ACCOUNTING DIVISION, AND THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
Broward County Mayor Beam Furr requests authorization to travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mayor Furr will be attending the COP30 Local Leaders Forum from November 1-7, 2025 (Exhibit 1). Broward County Chief Resilience Officer Dr. Jennifer Jurado is also attending this conference.
The COP30 Local Leaders Forum, co-organized with Climate Group, Secretariat for the Under 2 Coalition, of which Broward County is a member, will be held in Rio de Janeiro. This forum brings together hundreds of mayors, governors, and subnational leaders to spotlight local climate solutions and demonstrates how cities, states, and regions are accelerating progress on global climate goals.
Broward County is expected to engage prominently as part of formal panels and roundtable discussion with notable areas of initial interest including the County's intergovernmental coordination on waste management, robust integration of economics in resilience planning, and extensive public-private sector engagement on economic resilience.
