Summary Explanation/Background

PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Broward County Board of County Commissioners’ goal of “Healthy Community - Cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning.”

Approval of this item would permit the donation of two 370-gallon habitat tanks from Nova Southeastern University, Inc. (“NSU”). The tanks contain exhibits that are designed to represent the different habitats seen in Florida, including coral reefs, mangrove forests, and seagrass beds. NSU is donating the tanks due to lack of space at their current location, the Marine Environmental Education Center within Hollywood North Beach Park. If the donation is accepted, the tanks will be moved to Anne Kolb Nature Center at the County’s expense and will provide additional educational and learning resources for the public visiting the center.
