Summary Explanation/Background

The International Sister Seaport Program promotes business development and trade opportunities among port organizations. In the past, Port Everglades has had Sister Port agreements with ports in Europe, Asia, and South America.

To qualify as a Sister Port with Port Everglades, a participating port must commit to the reciprocal exchange of information related to cruise and cargo operations, statistical data, and general market research. Currently, Port Everglades’ Sister Port agreements are established on an ad hoc basis, and there is no formalized program governing the establishment of such partnerships.

This item directs the County Administrator to develop and implement a formal program for the establishment of Sister Port agreements with Port Everglades.
