Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedure and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are required to appropriate LETF funds.

Summary Explanation/Background
The Broward Sheriff's Office supports this LETF request to fund the BSO Forfeiture Unit operating budget as per ?932.7055(4), which authorizes forfeiture proceeds to be used for payment of the costs incurred in connection with the storage, maintenance, security, and forfeiture of the seized property, as well as the payment of court costs incurred in the forfeiture proceeding. This Unit is responsible for all legal process relating to the forfeiture program.
