MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of Public Hearing to be held on March 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422 of Governmental Center East to consider enactment of a proposed Ordinance, the title of which is as follows:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO BATTERY RECYCLING; AMENDING SECTIONS 14-150 THROUGH 14-153 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES ("CODE"); AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Summary Explanation/Background
On April 1, 2025, the Board enacted an ordinance regulating the management and disposal of batteries within Broward County ("Battery Recycling Ordinance"). The Battery Recycling Ordinance prohibits the disposal of certain batteries and battery-containing products in regular trash or solid waste facilities. The Battery Recycling Ordinance also requires that certain battery retailers establish free, on-site collection programs for recycling or disposing of used batteries and display signage informing consumers about safe recycling. On December 9, 2025, the Board extended the date for compliance until March 1, 2026.
