Summary Explanation/Background
THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
On May 18, 2022, the Claimant, a former treatment plant operator, sustained injuries during the course and scope of employment with Broward County Water & Wastewater Services. The Claimant alleged injuries to both right and left shoulders while trimming a tree branch with an extended pull chain saw when the tree branch fell on the Claimant.
Through negotiations with the Claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $75,000. The amount is broken down as follows: (1) The Claimant will receive $56,225 inclusive of $500 for a General Release and Resignation Agreement; and (2) The Claimant’s attorney will receive $18,625 for fees and $150 for costs.
The settlement includes all past and future indemnity and medical benefits.
