Summary Explanation/Background

THE FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE RISK MANAGEMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

 

On June 3, 2016, the Claimant, a former bus operator, sustained injuries during the course and scope of employment with Broward County Transportation Department. The Claimant alleged injuries to the neck, lower back, left leg, and left shoulder while carrying heavy items in preparation for an office function.

 

Through negotiations with the Claimant, a settlement was reached in the total amount of $375,100. The amount is broken down as follows: (1) The Claimant will receive $298,100, which includes $100 for a General Release and Resignation agreement; and (2) The Claimant’s attorney will receive $75,000 for fees and $2,000 for costs.

 

The settlement includes all past and future indemnity and medical benefits.
