THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This action supports the goal of ensuring accessible, seamlessly integrated investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices, manufacturing, resilient infrastructure, and environmental protection. Funding a tree giveaway achieves the goal of sustainable practices by increasing the County's tree canopy.

The NatureScape Broward Program has submitted a request for funding from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund (Fund) in the amount of $37,800 for the purchase of trees for the annual Water Matters Day Tree Giveaway to be held on March 8, 2025. The funding will be used for the purchase of approximately 1,600 trees to be given away to the public at the event. The Fund was previously used to fund the following Water Matters Day Tree Giveaways: 2005 ($25,575), 2006 ($4,126), 2007 ($28,374), 2010 ($14,445), 2011 ($16,415), 2012 ($22,650), 2014 ($18,900), 2015 ($21,442), 2016 ($23,050), 2017 ($23,775), 2018 ($17,860), 2019 ($9,998), 2020 ($13,948), 2021 ($14,600), 2022 ($13,098), 2023 ($22,853) and 2024 ($31,125).
