Summary Explanation/Background

The Discover Card Merchant Class Action Settlement is a class action lawsuit that alleges that Discover misclassified certain Discover-issued consumer credit cards as commercial credit cards. The Court has approved a proposed settlement for members of the settlement class who processed or accepted a misclassified card transaction between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2023. The deadline for filing a claim is May 18, 2026.

In preparation for filing a claim on behalf of the County, the County Attorney’s Office registered with the class administrator. At this time, the amount the County may recover is unknown. If the County is approved as a class member, the class administrator should be able to provide an estimated recovery amount.
