Summary Explanation/Background
The Aden Perry Good Samaritan and Scholarship Fund ("Fund") was established to honor the memory of Aden Perry, a Western High School student who tragically lost his life trying to save a person in a submerged vehicle. As part of the Fund's programs, the Aden Perry Hero Life Ring Initiative ("Initiative") was established to provide life-rescue rings and signage for installation near bodies of water. The purpose of the life-rescue rings is to provide bystanders with a means of responding effectively to a water emergency without endangering themselves. To date, numerous counties and cities throughout the State-as well as Florida State University-have installed the life-rescue rings at public parks and waterways.

Numerous bodies of water exist on private properties within the County, including within condominium and homeowner associations. This item permits discussion among the Board regarding the Initiative and directs County staff to research regulatory and incentive-based options for increasing the installation of life-rescue rings throughout the County, including on private property.
