Summary Explanation/Background
On March 27, 2020, the President signed the CARES Act into law, which provides direct federal assistance to local governments with populations over 500,000. Broward County has received $340,744,702 in funds to assist with this public health emergency for eligible expenses incurred from March 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

Non-exclusive examples of eligible expenditures are:
* Medical costs and public health expenses,
* Payroll expenses for certain employees (e.g. public health) whose services are substantially dedicated to mitigating or responding to the emergency,
* Expenses of actions to facilitate compliance with public health measures,
* Expenses associated with the provision of economic support,
* Other COVID-19 related expenses reasonably necessary to the function of government.
