A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO THE SELECTION OF A SUBSTITUTE CANVASSING BOARD MEMBER; WAIVING SECTION 18.33 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
ACTION: (T-10:33 AM) Approved.
VOTE: 9-0. Vice-Mayor Geller voted in the affirmative telephonically.
B. MOTION TO NOTE FOR THE RECORD Mayor's appointment of Commissioner Fisher as an alternate member of the Canvassing Board for calendar year 2020 (or until such earlier time if and as he becomes ineligible to serve). (Mayor Holness)

Summary Explanation/Background
Section 102.141, Florida Statutes, provides that "[t]he county canvassing board shall be composed of the supervisor of elections; a county court judge, . . . ; and the chair of the board of county commissioners." The statute provides that if the chair (here, the Mayor) is unable to serve or is disqualified, the Board of County Commissioners shall appoint another County Commissioner as a substitute. In addition, Section 102.141 requires the Mayor to appoint an additional County Commissioner to serve as an alternate member of the Canvassing Board to serve in the event the regular or substitute member is unable to participate in a particular canvassing board meeting.
