Summary Explanation/Background
The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) supports this LETF request for matching funds for the Port Security Grant Program - Grant Fiscal Year 2019 (Project Period 09/01/2019-08/31/2022). BSO has received a Fiscal Year 2019 Port Security Grant Program from the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund multiple projects, including a Maritime Terrorist Attack Exercise and a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Vessel at Port Everglades. The exercise will be designed to simulate a vessel bomb attack and test BSO's ability to counteract the effects of a maritime terrorist takeover of an inbound vessel. FEMA requires the grantee of the award to provide 25% matching funds.
