MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2020-048 directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of Public Hearing to be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422 of the Governmental Center to consider enactment of a proposed Ordinance, the title of which is as follows:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO THE DAVIE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COLORED SUBDIVISION PLAT ("PLAT"); AMENDING THE PLAT NAME IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 177.142, FLORIDA STATUTES; PROVIDING FOR RECORDATION; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Summary Explanation/Background
Section 177.142, Florida Statutes, authorizes local governments to change plat names by ordinance when a determination is made that the name of a recorded plat contains a racial or ethnic slur. The Davie Chamber of Commerce Colored Subdivision Plat ("Plat") is recorded at Plat Book 19, Page 14, of the public records of Broward County, Florida. The proposed Ordinance finds that the name constitutes a racial slur and is demeaning to racial and ethnic groups and changes the Plat name to the "Davie Chamber of Commerce Subdivision."
