THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE BUILDING CODE SERVICES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board’s Value of consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public and internal customers and Goal 4: Build into every process and service effective checks and balances that do not cause inefficiency, but rather ensure consistency, continuity, and quality.
Approval of this item allows the Office of the County Attorney to draft a proposed Ordinance amending Chapter 9 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances to provide for licensure and authorization to contract consistent with current regulations for building contractors.
Article XI of Chapter 9 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances provides for licensure of sole proprietorships, business organizations, and governmental agencies performing tree trimming work within Broward County. The proposed amendments would license the individuals performing tree trimming work, rather than the entity, and would require business organizations to have a licensed individual serve as qualifying agent in order for the organization to contract for or perform tree trimming work. The existing requirements for obtaining licensure would remain unchanged.
The proposed changes are not expected to impact the operations of current tree trimming contractors. The only effect on governmental agencies performing tree trimming work is that they would be issued a certificate of authority, rather than a Tree Trimmer license.
The Ordinance would be implemented for current tree trimming license holders upon renewal of the licenses.
