MOTION TO RETROACTIVELY APPROVE Subrecipient Agreement through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for the Fiscal Year 2019 Paul Coverdell Forensic Sciences Improvement Act Formula Grant Program (CFDA No 16.742 Federal grant award number 2019-CD-BX-0011 from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020 in the amount of $2,760 for the purpose of supplies and training for the staff of the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services.

Why Action is Necessary

Adoption of a Resolution certifying the use of funds requires Board approval.

 

What Action Accomplishes

Allows County to accept award of grant funds from the NIJ through the State of Florida, Department of Law Enforcement for continuing education for forensic pathologists, forensic pathologist fellows, and investigators. Authorizes the County Administrator to make necessary administrative and budgetary actions during the term of the grant.

Summary Explanation/Background

THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

 

This item is furtherance of the Commission Values of “Consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public and internal customers” and “Cultivating…lifelong learning.”

 

The Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services has, over the past six years, received similar grants for training, education, and equipment from the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ).

 

Currently, this office has requested, and has been approved to receive, $2,760 through the State of Florida, Department of Law Enforcement, to obtain supplies and training for the Medical Examiner’s staff, in order to enhance operations and training and improve the quality and timeliness of services.

 

The term of this grant is January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. The delay in processing was based upon funder requirements.

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ), through the State of Florida, Department of Law Enforcement, funds to be used for supplies and training to Improve Efficiencies and Readiness for the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services. The Coverdell Grant will provide funds in the amount of $2,760 from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020. There is no County match required.
