Summary Explanation/Background
COUNTY ADMINISTRATION/REAL PROPERTY SECTION AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of "cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting "the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses."
On January 23, 2018 (Item No. 4), the Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution 2018-019 supporting seven roadway enhancement projects in partnership with the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety along designated roadways in Broward County. SW 40th Avenue extending through Hollywood and Dania Beach is one of the seven approved road projects.
The County owns property located on SW 40th Avenue and identified by Folio Number 5042-31-01-0242 which has a water plant and E-911 tower. The property currently extends up to the road pavement and does not allow space for a sidewalk or bicycle lane. FDOT requested that 12 feet of the County property be reclassified as right-of-way so that the FDOT and MPO can build their enhancement project throughout SW 40th Avenue. The reclassified portion of the property is identified by Folio Number 5042-31-01-0243.
All documents have been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney.
