Summary Explanation/Background

PARKS AND RECREATION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

Tall Cypress Natural Area (TCNA) is designated as Environmentally Sensitive Land and is the subject of an Interlocal Agreement between Broward County and the City of Coral Springs (City) dated January 12, 1993, as amended by the First Amendment to Interlocal Agreement dated April 7, 1998. The 30-acre TCNA site was among 19 other sites that were acquired as part of the County's Environmentally Sensitive Lands 1989 Bond Issue. The City acquired approximately 36 acres adjacent to the 30 acres purchased by the County. Through the Interlocal Agreement, the City agreed to allow the County to maintain the City-owned acreage, and to combine the two properties (66 acres) as a natural area. The County manages the site and developed and enhanced the natural area with a restroom, parking lot, seating area, interpretive signs, and boardwalk. The TCNA opened to the public on February 7, 2002.

The Turtle Run Community Development District (District) has requested that the County grant the District a license to replace four existing metal signposts with decorative concrete signposts. The District would fund, install, construct, and maintain in perpetuity the new signposts. The improvements will be installed and maintained in the developed parking area of the TCNA. The District will install the new signposts within one year of the approval of the License. This time frame includes obtaining any necessary permits and completing construction. The cost of installation and maintenance of any landscaping or structures damaged during installation will also be the sole responsibility of the District.
