Summary Explanation/Background

Significant outbreaks of COVID-19 with substantial community spread have occurred and are continuing to occur in certain areas of the United States, including the New York tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut), Louisiana, and Michigan. Pursuant to Executive Orders 20-82 and 20-66, Governor DeSantis has directed all persons who enter the State of Florida from areas of substantial community spread of COVID-19 to isolate or quarantine for a period of 14 days.

In an effort to “flatten the curve” and limit the spread of COVID-19 within the State of Florida and the South Florida area, this item, if adopted, would encourage the airline partners of Broward County at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (“FLL”) to suspend direct commercial passenger flights between FLL from areas of substantial community spread, including flights from the New York tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut), Louisiana, and Michigan. This item, if approved, would have no impact on cargo flights or charter/private flights.
